Volunteers are the life blood of the JNA!!

Could you get involved with our Association?

The JNA relies on volunteers to help us in all areas, and they all make a huge contribution to the game of netball. Volunteering is a rewarding experience, not only benefiting the club or organisation, but also the individual - developing skills for use at college, university or in the workplace. It's a fantastic way to make new friends, and nothing beats the "feel-good factor" of helping out and giving something to your sport.

Email Lauren Mills ([email protected]) or the JNA President or speak to your Club if you want to volunteer in netball! Remember that every little helps! From being part of the committee, to umpiring, coaching, scoring, organising a fundraiser or putting forward and idea...get involved now!

Your steps to joining the Netball Family

1.   Consider what is motivating you to want to be involved in netball (Leading an area of expertise, supporting your local club/team, county, region or Vitality Netball Superleague club, the buzz of an event, being there for your kid(s) or learning more about netball).

2.  We know that volunteers in netball are involved because they are passionate about our sport and want to feel a sense of achievement around what they support. We think it’s really important to ensure you consider what is most important to you about getting involved as this will help us tailor where to signpost you.  The following categories may help.
  • Love to Lead*: you have been involved in netball or a specific area for a long time and have significant experience that could shape the future of the sport and how we do things through leading teams of volunteers.
  • Love my Team*: You are passionate about keeping things local and want to make a difference with your local school, college, university, club, or Vitality Netball Superleague club.
  • Love my Kids: Your child (children) are involved and you would like to get more involved.
  • Love to Learn*: You are passionate about personal development and learning from your experiences or through the training opportunities available in netball.
  • Love my Day: You would prefer to get involved with one-off opportunities like events and love the pressure and excitement involved in supporting these.
  • Love to But: You want to get involved but are not sure you have time or where to start.

3.   Consider where you are based, how far you would travel and how much time you have/want to commit to volunteering.

4. Speak to your club or to Lauren Mills out Netball Development Officer about how you can get involved! ([email protected])

She has been umpiring for the Jersey U11s, Youth and Senior Netball and Back to Netball and is currently working towards her C umpiring test. She has also helped out at U11 Island Sessions taking the cool down, umpiring and doing demonstrations.

As a result Soffia won the LynJax Trophy 2014! Well done Soffia

Anya Le Monnier

The JNA is extremely proud and excited to say that Anya Le Monnier has achieved over 400 hours of volunteering!!! See below to see what she has been doing to achieve this amazing number!! As a result of her amazing achievement as both a volunteer and a committed player she has been nominated and shortlisted for the NSW Goalden Globes 2014 and won The Norman Family Shield 2014 and the Young Player of the Year Award 2014.

Why did you decide to volunteer for your netball club and development?

I decided to start volunteering for netball mainly to give something back to netball and all the coaches that have helped me improve my netball as I realise how much work the coaches and other netball volunteers put into helping us all in their own time!

As a volunteer, what do you do?

I coach at Convent Netball Club working with the youth league. I also help at the Jersey Satellite Academy along with umpiring whenever I can! Also as part of my volunteering I help at the holiday camps. Some of the simpler things I do are selling football tickets at Jets matches (for fundraising) and helping out before the games setting up!

Why do you think volunteering is so important and why would you encourage others to get involved?

I think volunteering is important as it gives something back to netball and all the coaches, it's a great way of saying thank you for all the effort they have put into us. Also I think it's important to help the younger netballers improve and keep Jersey netball going, especially at the high standard we are at now! I would encourage others to get involved in volunteering because it is so much fun, you make loads of friends and most importantly you gain so much confidence! I also found that as well as benefitting others the coaching really helped me with my understanding of the game.

How has pass on your passion helped you?

Pass on my Passion has really helped because it got me involved in volunteering in the first place but mainly I found that having a goal for my volunteering was great as it helped me keep going and gave me something to work towards.

Isla Samson

The JNA are proud to announce that Isla Samson has completed 400 hours of volunteering! Having helped with Accies Youth and After School Netball and Holiday Netball, Isla also completed her Level 1 and 2 Coaching courses and then went on to University and completed her hours there! Congratulations Isla and thank you for all your hard work!
